Vernon Bowling Bag

The Vernon Bowling Bags is named after The Vernon Club and Lanes. Located at 1575 Story Avenue in Butchertown, the property was originally a mansion built by a wealthy butcher and meat packer in 1886. In 1898 the 9,000+ square foot meeting house was sold to a private Men's Only Club called The Delmont. The Delmont Club added a 12,000 square foot gymnasium and activity center at the turn of the century.

After World War I, the Delmont Club was sold to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Church held ownership until 2006 at which time it was purchased in its entirety by a private party. From 2006 to 2016, The Vernon not only offered 8 lanes of bowling, with a capacity of over 800 people, it also served as a music venue and hosted numerous community events.

The Vernon Club was purchased by new owners in 2016 and at its closing it was one of the three oldest active bowling alleys in the United States.

In 2022,  bowling is back in Butchertown!  All eight original wooden lanes have been refurbished and refinished and are ready to roll!  Vernon Lanes.
