Ever heard of a Moonbow?
Our all weather, waxed canvas Cumberland Overnight Bag (it’s actually roomy enough for a full weekend) is named for Cumberland Falls. Sometimes called the Little Niagara, the Niagara of the South, or the Great Falls, and is located on the Cumberland River in southeastern Kentucky. Spanning the river at the border of McCreary and Whitley counties, the waterfall is the central feature of Cumberland Falls State Resort Park.
Whitley County was established in 1818 and is the 59th in order of formation and McCreary County, established in 1912 is our last county at 120th … yes, 120!
Historical marker #1801 in Whitley County celebrates the natural phenomenon of the moonbow at the Cumberland Falls. In the right nighttime conditions, the Cumberland Falls create a natural occurrence unlike anything else, the moonbow.
In the United States such bows may be seen in relation to various waterfalls including Yosemite National Park, California and Cumberland Falls. Victoria Falls, in Africa on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and Plitvice Lakes in Croatia is also widely known for spray moonbows.
