Why not just call it a small satchel?
Well, basically any bag with a strapped handle is a satchel. But we preferred Map Bag, because it closely resembles the cross body bag worn by William Clark. While we have no idea if he kept maps in it, he was a map maker, so one can only assume. Our Clark Mag Bag, at 9.5" w x 11" h, will hold today’s modern maps … you know your IPad or Tablet … perfect for your next expedition.
Of course you know William Clark. Clark was half of the famous exploration team Lewis and Clark, who explored and mapped the unknown lands west of the Mississippi River.
Although Clark had little formal education, he displayed an inherent ability for mapmaking. He appears to have learned surveying and mapping on the Virginia frontier and in the Army. His first teacher was probably his older brother, the famous Indian fighter and Revolutionary War hero George Rogers Clark.
